The Trials and Tribulations of the Maytag Owner

Screw the Maytag repairman. He had his chance.... pretending he has nothing to do because the quality of his product is so superior that he has no work. Like the recession is hitting him the hardest of all. He's probably running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to fix all these malfunctions.

Two weeks ago my washing maching decided it was done. It is barely a year old. We bought it new when we bought this newer house. So after loading the detergent and clothes in, I turn it on... hear the normal clicking sounds and then this beeping with an error chode. Turns out it's the code for the doorlock (it's front loading). So if your door lock doesn't engage, your load can't be run for fear of a massive flood. So we try it again a few hundred times with the same result.

We called the store that sold us the unit, and gave them the code. They said they'd be out on Thursday. Thursday the repair guy calls me and tells me that he doesn't have a part, but it sounds like I diagnosed it, so there is no point in coming out until he has the part. I'm sorry, shouldn't you have ordered it before when I told you what the error code was? A week goes by, no part. Instead we get a call from the repairman saying he heard we took the machine back to the store. HUH? We told him no, so THEN he orders the part. OK what? Jarrett is calling the store and raising hell. End result it's been two weeks, and supposedly Monday they will be here to fix it.

Now I have four kids... one is a baby. I don't have the luxery of not doing laundry for two weeks. I also don't have a river with large rocks for beating laundry against nearby. I have been using my neighbors when it's absolutely necessary but let's face it, I hate to impose on her like that.

I don't like to do laundry but you know, when you are at the point of going commando you really do want your machine to work. I am doubtful they will be out here on Monday with the part. Call it a hunch. Anyone else have appliance repair horror stories?

  1. That sucks!!! With kids, the washing machine is definitely the last thing you want to break! I hope you get it fixed very soon - and that the store does something for your trouble. I think the worst repair story I had was the time the plumber came to fix the toilet that didn't want to flush, and we ended up with a bathtbub full of poop. That was fun...

  2. I do hope your washing machine has been fixed. I believe, somehow, repairmen like to have the monopoly in town. You call them and they are never available to visit you before 1 or 2 weeks later.

I've had a washing machine bad story when I was living in Ottawa. The landlord lady refused to fix the machine (we rented a house) so I had to drag big bags of dirty clothes to the laundrymat. I was a full-time student at the time, 7 months pregnant. My midwife didn't like me doing the extra exercises but what was I to do!

Thanks for sharing your "Maytag story".
